Alaiz campaign

First surface station installed

As part of the experimental measurement campaign to be performed at the Alaiz test site (ALEX2017), CENER has received the visit of Dr. Daniel Martinez Villagrasa from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB). Within the NEWA consortium, the UIB meteorology group is responsible for the installation of surface stations, designed to sense the flux of atmospheric variables in the ground-air transition region.

The first of several stations has been installed at the middle of the Alaiz hillside. It was necessary the collaboration of several colleagues to carry all the equipment. The day offered warm weather and an excellent view of the Alaiz test site, the northern hillside and the Pamplona valley.

Project meetings

SOWE 2017

After the annual NEWA meeting, several project participants had the opportunity to participate in The Fifth Symposium on OpenFOAM® in Wind Energy (SOWE 2017).

The symposium was hosted by the Department of Wind Energy at CENER (National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain). As in the previous editions, the symposium offered a space to share the latest developments based on OpenFOAM® for Wind Energy applications. The symposium brought together experts, beginners, developers and final end users to discuss the research results and techniques to solve the new demands of the Wind Energy sector.

Coordinates for the Alaiz campaign

For the setup of the wind measurement campaign to be performed around the Alaiz wind turbine test site, we are performing coordinate measurements to identify potential positions for the WindScanners. The locations must comply the requirements of good visibility for the Alaiz or Tajonar ridges and electricity access. The visit was an excellent opportunity to embrace the arrival of spring with a sunny day!
